Ortiz has been with All Elite Wrestling since 2019, but he has been featured less prominently on television recently. Speaking on the Wombreezy podcast, Ortiz discussed his current contract status, a new backstage role, and his goals for the future.
Contract Status
When asked how much time he has left with the company, Ortiz was transparent. “As of right now, I have about a year left with the company. Give or take,” he said. “Yeah, on this current contract.”
New Coaching Role
He made it clear that he hopes to remain with AEW. “I mean, I would love to stay there. I love working at AW.”
Ortiz also revealed that he has taken on a new backstage responsibility that he is enjoying. “I’ve actually been coaching, doing, producing, basically,” he shared. “And it’s also selfishly making me a better wrestler, because now I’m helping people call matches, and I’m analyzing it from a different lens. So even if I stay on purely just to do coaching and producing and I can still wrestle, for me, that’s I’m happy. That’s the best of both worlds.”
“Change People’s Perception”
Ortiz stated that his primary objective is to re-establish himself with the audience. “Change the perception that I have in AEW, is my biggest short term goal once I get the opportunity to get back on television and wrestle,” he said.
“I just want to change people’s perception about me to our AEW audience, and be taken as a serious wrestler, rather than just a thug, if that makes sense,” he explained.
Still Chasing Gold
He also still has his sights set on championship gold. “Um, definitely win gold, some sort of gold,” Ortiz said. “I would love for it to be tag team gold. Again, I love tag team wrestling. Hopefully it’ll be with Eddie, or whoever it is.”
