John Cena Announces Tournament To Determine His Final Opponent

The road to John Cena’s final match has taken a dramatic turn. During a video package that aired on tonight’s Saturday Night’s Main Event broadcast, John Cena himself announced that his final opponent will be determined by a 16-man tournament.

The tournament is set to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory. Cena revealed that the 16-man field will feature competitors from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and “maybe even talent who don’t work in WWE.” This opens the door to a host of dream scenarios and potential surprise entrants from other promotions, all vying for the historic opportunity to be John Cena’s final opponent on December 13 at the Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C.

Recent reports from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter detailed an internal plan where Dominik Mysterio would retain his Intercontinental Championship at tonight’s event against Penta and Rusev. This is reportedly going to set up a Survivor Series match where Cena would defeat Mysterio to become a Grand Slam Champion, leading to a final title defense against GUNTHER.

During tonight’s show, Dominik Mysterio successfully retained his Intercontinental Championship in the Triple Threat match, pinning Rusev after using underhanded tactics. With Mysterio still holding the title, the path to a Survivor Series match with Cena becomes more of a reality.
