Drew McIntyre did not win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, once again losing to Cody Rhodes in a title match. The match featured a controversial finish. During the bout, the referee was knocked down. This allowed Rhodes to hit McIntyre with a DDT onto the title belt. Rhodes then followed up with a Cross Rhodes to secure the victory and retain his championship.
McIntyre’s Post-Match Reaction
Following the event, Drew McIntyre took to X to express his frustration. Instead of a direct statement, McIntyre posted the infamous video of Cody Rhodes telling a story about Ted DiBiase Jr. In the clip, Rhodes recounts DiBiase going backstage after a match and proclaiming, “The referee was trying to fuck on him.” McIntyre’s post, referencing a story about a compromised referee, was a clear shot at the way his own championship match ended.

A Frustrating 2025 For McIntyre
This loss continues a difficult year for McIntyre in major matches. His 2025 run began with a loss to Jey Uso on the Raw premiere on Netflix. He was later eliminated from the Royal Rumble by Damian Priest. After moving to SmackDown, he qualified for the Elimination Chamber match but was the first man eliminated, again by Priest. Although McIntyre defeated Priest in a Sin City Street Fight at WrestleMania 41, his momentum stalled.
He failed to win the United States Championship in a fatal four-way at Backlash and lost a Steel Cage match to Priest at the Saturday Night’s Main Event in May. After a short hiatus, McIntyre returned in July only to lose to Randy Orton.
His rivalry with Cody Rhodes began after SummerSlam, where McIntyre teamed with Logan Paul for a victory. Just six nights later, McIntyre and Paul lost to Rhodes and John Cena via disqualification, after which McIntyre attacked Rhodes. This led to two consecutive Premium Live Event title losses to Rhodes, first at Wrestlepalooza and now at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
