CM Punk: “Every Day’s Been A Dream” Since Returning To WWE

CM Punk spent his first weekend as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion by checking out a Utah Mammoth game. Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship on Saturday at Utah’s Delta Center. On Sunday, he returned to the venue to watch the Utah Mammoth take on the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Punk spoke with Nick Olczyk between periods about his weekend victory and his return to the company. “I won the title here last night and happy accident I get to come watch some hockey today so I’m enjoying my day off.”

A Dream Return

Asked what his last two years back in WWE have been like, Punk said it has been a dream. He also drew parallels between his current role and the sport of hockey. “It’s just every day’s been a dream, honestly. Every day’s gratitude. Obviously, I love hockey so much I kind of draw the parallels between my wrestling career and hockey and I’m the old guy in the room now.“

“I’m just happy I get to lace up my skates and have the privilege to be able to walk the locker room and the halls with a lot of talented young stars and seeing all the fans, all the places I’ve been all around the world multiple times, getting to revisit stuff and see the young and the old all love wrestling. It’s great. It’s been a dream.”

Second Reign As Champion

Punk’s win on Saturday was the ninth time the World Heavyweight Championship has changed hands since it was brought back in 2023. This marks Punk’s second reign with the title. His first lasted only moments after he defeated Gunther for it at SummerSlam, only for Seth Rollins to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase afterward.

Up next for the new champion is tonight’s WWE Raw. General Manager Adam Pearce announced on Sunday that Punk will appear on the show. You can check out a preview for the show here.

While Punk celebrates his new title, the two men involved in his first reign are focused on their own paths. Gunther, who Punk defeated at SummerSlam, is still the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion on SmackDown after a successful defense against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel. Meanwhile, Seth Rollins, who cashed in on Punk, is currently in a new rivalry on Raw with Bron Breakker.
