NWA National Champion Mike Mondo Calls Out Tony Khan Over New AEW National Title

Following AEW’s announcement of a new championship, the reigning NWA National Champion has taken issue with the name.

NWA star Mike Mondo took to social media shortly after the announcement to state his claim as the only National Champion, staking claim to the title’s long history.

AEW Announces New Championship

The situation began on the November 5, 2025, episode of AEW Dynamite. During the broadcast, it was announced that AEW would soon be crowning its own “National Champion.”

Mike Mondo Responds

The announcement drew a swift and direct response from Mondo, the NWA’s current National Champion. Taking to X, Mondo addressed the news and AEW President Tony Khan directly.

“Let me be CLEAR,” Mondo wrote. “There is only ONE NWA & there is only one PRESTIGIOUS National Championship that holds legit lineage & has for decades.”

Mondo made it clear he views his title as the only one with history and took aim at any potential confusion from the new AEW title. “So to Tony Khan or anyone else confused… here’s the legit title, with the company it belongs to & the legit National Champion! MY NAME IS MIKE MONDO.”
