John Cena has taken to social media to tease that “surprises” are in store for the “Last Time is Now” tournament, which kicks off on the November 10 episode of WWE Raw in Boston.
“Seeing all the excitement around Monday Night WWE Raw in Boston. Can’t wait to see the matchups and surprises for the Last Time is Now tournament. This is a true once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everyone involved,” Cena posted.
The ‘Last Time Is Now’ Tournament
The 16-man tournament was announced at Saturday Night’s Main Event to determine who will face John Cena in his final WWE match. That retirement match is scheduled for December 13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
The tournament field is set to include participants from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and, as Cena teased, “maybe even some faces who don’t even work here”. This has fueled speculation about potential outside names joining the bracket.
Boston-Bound Matches
Cena will be in attendance for Raw in his hometown of Boston to see the first-round matches begin. The two matches announced for the show feature several of Cena’s past rivals.
Damian Priest is scheduled to face Rusev. Rusev famously had a feud with Cena over the United States Championship, which culminated at WrestleMania 31. The other announced match will see Sheamus take on Shinsuke Nakamura. Sheamus has a long history with Cena, having defeated him at TLC in 2009 to win his first WWE Championship. Nakamura also holds a notable victory over Cena from a 2017 episode of SmackDown.
