Backstage Reaction To Nixon Newell & Miranda Alize’s AEW Incident

Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize are not expected to be booked by All Elite Wrestling again after a dispute over their plans on the November 8 episode of AEW Collision. That is according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“All I know is I do not expect these two to be booked in AEW,” Meltzer said.

Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize debuted in All Elite Wrestling on the November 1 episode of AEW Collision against Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne. There were reportedly issues in that match which frustrated Bayne, including Newell and Alize not cooperating on a double German suplex spot. Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Radio there was surprise within AEW that Newell and Alize were even booked again after the initial issues.

They were booked again, though, and the tag team was scheduled to lose to TayJay in a three-minute match on the November 8 episode of Collision. Newell and Alize have admitted they didn’t want to do the match as they didn’t believe a three-minute contest would benefit anyone. After this was relayed within the promotion, Newell and Alize were told they were free to leave.

Newell and Alize have claimed there is no bad blood, but Meltzer and Alvarez have both noted that is not the case, with the view within AEW being that their opposition to the booking was a “stupid thing to do.”

“Let me tell you something. I heard from a lot of people and what was amazing was I was hearing from people as the show was going on. People weren’t even waiting until the show was over. I mean, maybe Tony told them there was no hard feelings. Hard feelings is the wrong word. Bad blood, I don’t know how you would term it, but there were so many people that were like, ‘What a stupid thing to do.’ That’s the one thing I heard over and over, ‘What a stupid thing to do,'” Alvarez said.

Nixon Newell had noted in the summer of 2025 that she had received a “severe lack of bookings” since her WWE release in late 2024. The former Tegan Nox had eight matches between those comments and the AEW Collision match on November 1.

On November 9, Newell and Alize addressed the situation on a Twitch stream, confirming the issue was the three-minute match time. Newell stated the conversation with an AEW producer was “polite” and “respectful”, and they were told they were “free to go home”. Newell insisted there was “no bad blood on either side” and also denied the reported issues with Megan Bayne from their debut match. Alize posted on X, “We have SOOOOOOOO much to say”. Newell and Alize were replaced in the Collision match by Hyan and Maya World, who reportedly “gained points internally” for stepping in at the last minute.
