Damian Priest: Facing John Cena in His Final Match is ‘Our WrestleMania’
As the “Last Time is Now” tournament kicks off tonight on Raw, Damian Priest has taken to X (formerly Twitter) to explain exactly what winning the tournament and facing John Cena in his final match would mean.
Priest, who is scheduled for a first-round match against Rusev, did not hold back, calling the opportunity a “career defining moment.”
“For me personally, it would mean the world,” Priest wrote.
A Career-Defining Privilege
Priest compared the magnitude of being Cena’s final opponent to the legendary moment that started Cena’s main roster career.
“You remember his first, right? Like when he came out with the Kurt Angle thing, how could you not remember his last?” Priest asked. “So there’s a reason why there’s a tournament for that privilege.”
He continued to praise Cena’s legacy, pointing out how unique his status is. “There’s a reason why the company itself calls him the greatest of all time while he’s still doing it. That’s reserved for when you retire. So the fact that the company believes in him so much, tell you how much this should mean to all of us.”
For Priest and the other 15 competitors, the prize at the end of this tournament is bigger than just a match.
“This is our WrestleMania, that’s the moment,” Priest declared. “So for anybody who gets that honor, it’s gonna be a huge deal.”
Rusev, and Sheamus also took to X to give their comments on the tournament:
