Clarification On Drew McIntyre’s WWE Storyline Suspension

Reports that Drew McIntyre’s storyline suspension from WWE SmackDown is to allow him time to film a movie are incorrect, according to PWInsider.com. Previous rumors, originating from Wrestling Observer Radio, noted that McIntyre was being written off television for a movie role. However, a new report from PWInsiderElite.com refutes this.

“For those who have asked about rumors Drew McIntyre was ‘suspended’ on Smackdown so he can film a movie role, there is nothing to that. PWInsiderElite.com is told by creative sources that the suspension is just the next part of McIntyre’s storyline. There is nothing beyond that.”

The Suspension Angle

The storyline suspension took place at the conclusion of the November 7 episode of WWE SmackDown. The show’s main event featured Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes in a non-title match against Aleister Black.

The match, which was booked after Black and Zelina Vega interrupted Rhodes’ opening promo, ended in a no-contest when Drew McIntyre hit the ring. As referee Dan Engler was administering a 10-count, McIntyre laid him out with a Claymore kick.

A brawl immediately erupted between Rhodes and McIntyre. Black joined in, creating a two-on-one attack on the champion. This prompted the return of Damian Priest, who had not been seen since his Last Man Standing match with Black, to even the odds. As the four men brawled, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis came out and, incensed by McIntyre’s actions, suspended him indefinitely.
