Surprise Return May Be Happening Tonight On AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts

A potential surprise return could be in store for tonight’s special AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts event. Speaking on today’s Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez shared speculation he had heard regarding the show.

“I do think there’s a chance we’re gonna see a surprise return on AEW tonight,” Alvarez said. “I don’t know this really at all. But I heard something over the weekend where I think it’s possible”.

Alvarez was quick to manage expectations, clarifying two names that he was not referring to. He stated that he is not talking about Chris Jericho or Britt Baker, both of whom have been absent from AEW television for many months.

The speculation adds another layer of intrigue to what is already one of the most anticipated editions of Dynamite this year. The special 2.5-hour event will emanate from the First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The broadcast will feature two “Blood & Guts” cage matches. The first-ever Women’s Blood & Guts Match will see the team of TBS Champion Mercedes Moné, Megan Bayne, Marina Shafir, and Triangle of Madness (Thekla, Skye Blue, and Julia Hart) take on AEW Women’s World Champion Kris Statlander, “Timeless” Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, Willow Nightingale, Harley Cameron, and Jamie Hayter. Team Moné will have the advantage in the match.

In the Men’s Blood & Guts Match, the Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, PAC, Daniel Garcia, and Wheeler Yuta) will face the team of Darby Allin, The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Reilly, and Orange Cassidy), and Roderick Strong. The Death Riders will be at a disadvantage after Roderick Strong defeated Jon Moxley by countout on Collision, following an assist from Darby Allin.

In addition to the two cage matches, AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page will face Powerhouse Hobbs in a non-title, Falls Count Anywhere match. The match comes just 10 days before Page is set to defend his championship against Samoa Joe at AEW Full Gear.

Finally, the show will feature live appearances from two legends with extensive history in Greensboro: WWE Hall of Famers Ric Flair and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat.
