Is the “Greatest of All Time” heading to the Hall of Fame immediately after hanging up his boots?
According to a report from Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, John Cena is currently the frontrunner to headline the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame class. With his in-ring career set to conclude in December, the company is reportedly wasting no time in honoring his legacy. Alvarez noted that the “belief is Cena very likely the 2026 Hall of Fame main eventer.”
Cena is currently in the final weeks of his retirement tour. He wrestled his final match on Monday Night Raw this week, teaming with Sheamus and Rey Mysterio to defeat The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Dominik Mysterio. The match served as a nostalgic send-off for Cena on the red brand, where he spent the vast majority of his career.
The appearance also furthered his rivalry with Dominik Mysterio. Earlier in the night, Mysterio interrupted Cena’s promo, still angry about losing the Intercontinental Championship to Cena recently. The confrontation led to the two agreeing to a rematch for the title at Survivor Series.
Cena’s career began on the main roster in 2002, and he won his first WWE Championship in 2005. He remained the face of the company through 2017 before shifting to a part-time schedule to focus on Hollywood.
Cena’s final match is scheduled for Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. The event will take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.. While his final opponent has not been officially confirmed, a “Last Time Is Now” tournament is currently ongoing on WWE television to determine who will face Cena in his retirement bout. Stephanie McMahon has already been announced as the first inductee for the 2026 Hall of Fame, which is expected to take place during WrestleMania 42 weekend.
