Matt Cardona Confirms Merchandise Deal With WWE

Matt Cardona, wrestling as Zack Ryder, made a surprise return to WWE television on the November 14 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. He was revealed as the mystery opponent for LA Knight in the first round of the “Last Time Is Now” tournament, a bracket designed to determine John Cena’s final opponent. Despite a spirited effort, Ryder was defeated by Knight, ending his tournament run immediately.

Following the appearance, fans speculated that new Zack Ryder merchandise on WWE Shop signaled a full-time return. However, Cardona clarified his status on the Major Wrestling Figure Podcast, confirming that he has not signed a full-time contract.

“(It was a) great experience being back. For now, it’s a one-time thing,” Cardona said. “Hey guys, there’s merch on WWE Shop. Buy it, please buy all three shirts, maybe it won’t be a one-time thing.”

Cardona explained that he signed a temporary merchandise deal to allow the company to produce the new shirts for his appearance. He noted in a post-match digital interview that he remains unsure if he should expect another call from the company, leaving his future in WWE open but unconfirmed.

With his victory over Ryder, LA Knight has advanced to the quarterfinals of the “Last Time Is Now” tournament, where he is scheduled to face Jey Uso. Meanwhile, John Cena is preparing to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29.
