Former WWE Tag Team Champions The Headbangers, consisting of Mosh and Thrasher, have officially announced their plans to retire from in-ring competition. In a video posted to social media, the duo revealed that their run as a team will conclude next summer, marking the end of a partnership that has spanned over three decades.
Thrasher, real name Glenn Ruth, opened the announcement by noting the longevity of their team. “June of 2026 will be 33 years that we’ve been together,” Thrasher said. “And with heavy hearts, we’re announcing that on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026… ISPW Legends of Wrestling Night… Wildwoods Convention Center, Wildwood, New Jersey, will be our last match”.
While the date is set, the team did leave the door slightly ajar for specific opportunities. Mosh, real name Chaz Warrington, interjected with a caveat regarding their retirement. “Unless, of course, WWE calls,” Mosh joked. Thrasher added his own personal bucket list item to the list of exceptions. “Or more importantly Japan, since I’ve still never been there,” Thrasher said.
Despite the jokes, the team emphasized that the ISPW date is intended to be their final “in ring” appearance. They urged promoters and fans to take advantage of the remaining time. “If you want to see us, be there at the Wildwoods Convention Center on July 23rd, 2026. Or tell your local promoters to book us now,” Thrasher stated. Mosh compared their farewell to another high-profile retirement happening in the industry. “Because this is like John Cena’s last run,” Mosh noted. “Time is ticking,” Thrasher added.
A 33-Year Career
The Headbangers are best known for their tenure in the World Wrestling Federation during the late 1990s Attitude Era. Portraying a pair of skirt-wearing, metal-loving brawlers, they captured the WWF Tag Team Championship in 1997. Thrasher also briefly held the WWF Hardcore Championship. Following their initial WWE runs, both men continued to wrestle on the independent circuit and made sporadic returns to WWE television in 2016. Their scheduled retirement in 2026 will bring to a close a partnership that will have lasted 33 years.
