Becky Lynch recently pulled back the curtain on a dark backstage secret from her early days with WWE. Speaking on the Something’s Burning show, Lynch revealed that women were warned explicitly about a particular male wrestler who allegedly used his status against female talent. The male wrestler, whom Lynch chose not to name, was known for allegedly using his power to control women’s careers depending on whether or not they agreed to sleep with him.

Lynch explained the precarious situation female talent faced when dealing with this male star on the main roster. She noted that the environment for women at the time was characterized by explicit warnings to “stay away from the boys” in general, but this individual presented a specific, unavoidable threat to a woman’s career. The risk of being blacklisted by this star existed whether the woman engaged with him or not. Lynch explained the tightrope women were forced to walk.

“I’m not going to name names, but there was a guy on the main roster who was like, ‘Be careful. Be careful, because if, one, he’ll try to sleep with you. If he sleeps with you, then he’ll blacklist you. And if he tries to sleep with you and you don’t sleep with him, he’ll also blacklist you.’ So there was this line that you had to walk — this tightrope. You know him definitely. But anyway, at one point, it was like, how do you walk this line?”
