Eddie Kingston has secured a shot at the AEW World Heavyweight Championship following a victory on the Thanksgiving edition of AEW Collision. After defeating Katsuyori Shibata, Kingston demanded a title match for the upcoming Winter is Coming edition of Dynamite. AEW officials granted the request, setting the stage for a main event clash at the Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on Wednesday, December 10.
Face-To-Face Scheduled For Dynamite
Before the title match takes place, the challenger and the champion will meet in the ring. AEW has announced a face-to-face confrontation between Kingston and AEW World Champion Samoa Joe for this Wednesday’s Dynamite in Fishers, Indiana. This segment is expected to heighten tensions between the two competitors as they prepare for their championship bout.
History Within “The Opps”
The storyline between Kingston and Joe involves deep-seated history with Hook, Joe’s original partner in the faction known as The Opps. When Hook was sidelined with an injury, The Opps captured the AEW World Trios Championships. Upon his return to active duty, Hook teamed with Kingston, creating a bond between the two. However, that alliance shattered at November’s Full Gear event. Hook helped Joe defeat Hangman Page to win the AEW World Title, revealing that he had been working with Joe behind the scenes the entire time.
Historical Match Statistics
This upcoming championship match marks a rare encounter between the two veterans. According to Cagematch, Kingston and Joe have wrestled each other only once in the past decade, which occurred in a trios match on Dynamite last month. In singles competition, they have not faced off since 2007. That bout took place at a PWS event in Garfield, New Jersey, where Joe come out with the win.
