Tony Hinchcliffe Reveals He Was Offered A Job On WWE Creative Team

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe revealed on The Joe Rogan Experience that he was once offered a job to write for WWE, but turned it down due to the location requirements.

“It was only a couple years into me doing stand up… Someone’s like, ‘Hey, I have a friend in WWE if you want to have a meeting with them,'” Hinchcliffe said. “I went in with straight up ideas… The Undertaker’s brother comes back again… I went in with the whole thing. This guy’s like… ‘This is crazy. You just did this?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, I found out a couple days ago we were going to talk.'”

Hinchcliffe said the company offered him the position, but the logistics of the job didn’t fit his comedy career.

“They offered it… but I would have had to move to Connecticut and take a train to New York every night to go do stand up. And that would have just been exhausting,” Hinchcliffe explained. “It kind of would have made more sense if it was in New York City. It would have been a no-brainer if it was in LA.”

Hinchcliffe also noted that the late comedian Patrice O’Neal had a stint with the company.

“Patrice O’Neal, the late, great Patrice O’Neal, wrote for WWE for a while… for like, a couple of years,” Hinchcliffe said.

Cena confirmed the grueling nature of the job.

“When you’re a WWE writer… it’s not like a cute job at all,” Cena said. “There’s a lot of content every week… It’s like 50 segments of TV every week.”
