Gunther Set to Face John Cena in Final Match

Gunther will oppose John Cena in the final match of Cena’s wrestling career. Gunther secured the opportunity by defeating LA Knight in the finals of “The Last Time Is Now” tournament during the December 5 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

The match concluded when Gunther forced Knight to submit using a modified STF, a hold frequently utilized by Cena throughout his career. Following the contest, Gunther addressed the camera directly regarding the upcoming bout with Cena.

“I hope you’re paying attention,” Gunther said. “At Saturday Night’s Main Event, you finally and definitely will give up!”

Cena Responds to Match Announcement

John Cena posted a statement on X regarding the confirmation of his opponent for the December 13 event.

“The stage is set for One Last Match,” Cena wrote. “On a night of epic proportions, it is an honor to face off against an opponent who I respect and who has earned the right to issue this final challenge! I will bring my best, I know he will do the same! Don’t miss the Final Time!”

Event Details

The match is scheduled to take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C on December 13, 2025. The event will stream live on Peacock. This bout serves as the conclusion to Cena’s retirement tour and his 23-year tenure with WWE.
