WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Match Is Now Advertised As A Title Match

A previously announced exhibition match for Saturday Night’s Main Event has now been upgraded to a championship bout. The tag team match featuring AJ Styles and Dragon Lee against Je’Von Evans and TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater will now be for the WWE World Tag Team Championship.

Initially, when the match was announced earlier this week, it was not billed as a title defense. However, WWE’s official website has since updated its preview for the event, explicitly stating that the gold will be on the line.

“At Saturday Night’s Main Event, World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee will put their title on the line against two of the hottest prospects in NXT, the explosive Je’Von Evans and TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater,” the official preview reads. “Who will leave as champions? Find out at Saturday Night’s Main Event on Dec. 13 at 8 ET/5 PT on Peacock in the United States and YouTube internationally.”

This change raises the stakes significantly for Evans and Slater, who represent the next generation of high-flyers from NXT and TNA.  Saturday Night’s Main Event takes place this Saturday, December 13, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and will be headlined by John Cena’s final match against Gunther. Here is the updated match card:

  • John Cena’s Final Match: John Cena vs. Gunther
  • Champion vs. Champion Match: Cody Rhodes (Undisputed WWE Champion) vs. Oba Femi (NXT Champion)
  • Bayley vs. Sol Ruca
  • WWE World Tag Team Championship Match: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee (champions) vs. Je’Von Evans & Leon Slater
