Aleister Black Reveals Original Plans For Zelina Vega Pairing In 2020

Aleister Black and Zelina Vega opened up about their current on-screen alliance in WWE during an interview on The Babyfaces Podcast. Black revealed that the partnership, which fans are seeing now, was actually conceived and filmed years prior before his initial departure from the company.

“To be honest, this is not something really like new,” Black said. “If you go back through the last couple of years, there’s been, like hints of that, you know, with the snake stuff, but also with us, where this was originally supposed to happen in 2020 right before I had my initial departure, we shot a bunch of test vignettes, and there was already a pretty like big plan for her and myself to be put on television together, so with snakes, actually.”

Black and Vega discussed the balance required to merge their distinct on-screen personas. Black noted the importance of maintaining Vega’s established character traits while integrating her into his darker narrative.

“I didn’t want to lose Zelina Vega, and all of a sudden, Zelina Vega becomes this Dungeons and Dragons character and speaks in riddles and stuff like that, because it’s not what Zelina Vega is,” Black stated. “It just has that the narrative has to change as to how you speak in regards to the topics that you utilize as your character… she then has to translate that to what Zelina Vega does… but at the same time, she can’t be happy go lucky.”

Vega expressed her enthusiasm for her current presentation. “I feel like this version of myself is the purest form and the most fun,” Vega said.
