Thea Hail Wins WWE NXT North American Title After Apparent Mistake By The Referee

Thea Hail captured the NXT Women’s North American Championship on tonight’s episode of NXT, defeating Blake Monroe in a title match that concluded with a disputed pinfall.

The match began with technical exchanges, as Hail targeted Monroe’s arm. Monroe responded by sending Hail into the turnbuckles and executing a spinning side slam for a near fall. Monroe focused her offense on Hail’s arm, utilizing a cross arm breaker in the ropes and a cobra clutch with a body scissors to wear down the challenger.

Hail rallied late in the contest, delivering a series of clotheslines and a standing power slam. She followed up with a somersault senton before executing a springboard coffin drop to secure the three count and the championship.

Following the decision, replays of the finish appeared to show that Monroe may have raised her shoulder before the referee completed the three count. Despite the visual evidence on the replay, the decision stood, and Hail was declared the new champion. The way it came across, it looked like someone screwed up the finish. I guess we’ll find out soon if this was the original plan for the ending of the match.
