Matt Hardy recently weighed in on the complex relationship between Vince McMahon and Jim Ross. Following recent comments from Ross regarding McMahon’s animosity toward him, Hardy validated the legendary announcer’s perspective, describing McMahon’s behavior as “abusive.”
‘He Kind Of Got Off On That’
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, Matt discussed McMahon’s tendency to test people by putting them in compromising situations. He noted that this was a specific trait of the former WWE Chairman.
“I felt like events had a thing. Vince had a thing for like, putting people in positions, which made them feel uncomfortable. And he kind of got off on that. In all honesty, that was like one of his things,” Hardy said. “I felt like he did that with JR quite a bit, you know, that became a regular, common thing there. There were certain people I felt like, if you ever showed signs of weakness, or like, No, I don’t want to do that, or like being uncomfortable, like, if you were outright uncomfortable with it, then he would push it even harder.”
Abusive Behavior Toward Jim Ross
Hardy went a step further, labeling McMahon’s specific treatment of Ross as abusive. He described a strange dynamic where McMahon seemed to have a personal rivalry with his lead announcer.
“I think he was abusive with it as well. And JR probably was one of the guys he was more abusive with, in many ways. There was, there was, like, this real weird rivalry between them in some ways,” Hardy stated.
JR’s Role In Hiring The Hardys
Despite the friction between Ross and McMahon, Hardy credited Ross entirely for launching the Hardy Boyz’ careers in WWE. He recalled how Ross saw their potential when they were just doing enhancement work.
“JR, at the end of the day, is the one who absolutely made the call and pushed and decided to hire myself and Jeff, he also is the one who hired Edge and Christian so that whole Edge, Christian, Hardy’s legacy, which is huge, that was all a JR call,” Hardy said.
