WWE is reportedly preparing to add fresh talent to the SmackDown roster as the show transitions to a three-hour format in January. According to a new report, NXT star Joe Hendry is a leading candidate for a permanent call-up to the blue brand.
USA Network Interest
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that internal discussions have taken place regarding Hendry moving to the main roster full-time. The report notes that the USA Network has been “keen” on getting Hendry for SmackDown.
Main Roster Deal
Hendry’s potential move comes as little surprise given his contract status. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select previously reported that when Hendry officially signed with WWE, he was already placed on a main roster-level deal.
Hendry appeared on tonight’s SmackDown broadcast (taped December 19), where he defeated The Miz in a “Miracle on 34th Street Fight.” The show served as the final SmackDown of 2025. WWE will kick off the new year with the show’s move to three hours beginning January 2, 2026, as the company builds toward the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia on January 31.
