Kevin Nash: Gunther ‘Doesn’t Have Real Heat. He Has Manufactured Heat’

Kevin Nash gave his take on the current top heel on Monday Night Raw, Gunther, and the reaction he receives from fans. Despite Gunther coming off a major moment by defeating and retiring John Cena, Nash believes the reaction the “Ring General” receives is not genuine heat.

Speaking on his podcast, Nash discussed the current landscape of the show and pushed back when co-host Sean Oliver suggested Gunther has “real heat” right now.

“He doesn’t have real heat,” Nash said. “He has manufactured heat. It’s the closest thing that there is to heat on that show. But he doesn’t have heat.”

Nash explained his reasoning by noting how WWE presents Gunther’s segments. He argued that the reaction is dictated by the format of the show rather than the audience’s organic disdain for the character. He ited a recent segment involving Raw General Manager Adam Pearce.

“It’s like last week when he came out and so his music plays, and then his graphic plays,” Nash said. “Then he goes out and cuts a promo, and then Pierce comes out and tells him to get the f**k out of the building. So they played his music, played his entrance, gave him a microphone, he cut a promo, but when he got done, it’s time to get the f**k out of the building… Because you’re a bad guy, and you got heat.”

Gunther recently had a run-in with CM Punk on the December 22 episode of Raw, continuing the tension between the two following their match at SummerSlam, where Punk defeated Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title.
