On Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, Nikki Bella battled Raquel Rodriguez and Stephanie Vaquer in a Triple Threat Match for the Women’s World Championship. During the match, a specific spot involving Bella drew a significant reaction from the live crowd.
Bella locked an STF on Rodriguez, a move famously associated with her ex-fiancé, John Cena. The spot prompted the audience to chant “Thank you Cena.” Bella immediately responded to the chants during the match by yelling at the crowd.
“No! Thank me!” Bella shouted.
Following the show, Bella took to social media to give further comments on using the submission hold. She addressed the fans who interpreted the move as a nod to Cena.
“You all kept wanting a tribute from me geeezz so here ya all go… but… that’s the Fearless Lock,” Bella wrote.
John Cena used the STFU (later the STF) for many years during his legendary career. He retired on December 13, tapping out to GUNTHER in his final match.
Despite the attention on the submission hold, Bella was unsuccessful in her bid to win the title. Stephanie Vaquer retained the Women’s World Championship in the Triple Threat Match.
