There is high praise internally for NXT Champion Oba Femi following his recent high-profile appearances on the main roster. Bodyslam.net is reporting that WWE officials were said to be “unbelievably impressed” by Femi’s performances on SmackDown and at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Femi defeated Ricky Saints at NXT Deadline on December 6 to regain the NXT Championship. By reclaiming the title, Femi secured a spot in a Champion vs. Champion match against Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. The match, which took place on the same card as John Cena’s final wrestling match, ended in a no-contest after interference from Drew McIntyre.
Since that performance, vignettes for Femi have aired on both SmackDown and Monday Night Raw, signaling a move to the main roster. According to the report, Femi is expected to be called up to the main roster “very soon.”
Sources indicate to Bodyslam that officials view Femi’s potential on par with Bron Breakker. “If Bron’s current push and trajectory tells you anything, it’s that Oba Femi will be a special, special case and main event player for years to come,” the report stated.
Femi, a former track and field athlete at the University of Alabama, signed with WWE in December 2021 as part of the Next In Line program. He is currently in his second reign as NXT Champion and holds the record for the longest reign as NXT North American Champion at 273 days.
