On the latest episode of the “My World” podcast, Jeff Jarrett weighed in on the recent discourse regarding the dangers of modern professional wrestling. The conversation was sparked by comments from veterans Arn Anderson, Missy Hyatt, and William Regal, who recently expressed concern over the frequency of head-dropping moves and high-risk spots, warning current talent about long-term neck injuries.
When asked for his perspective as an active wrestler and executive, Jarrett argued that asking the industry to revert to a safer, older style is unrealistic. He drew parallels to other major sports to illustrate his point.
“The industry is not going in reverse,” Jarrett said. “If you look at the game of football… the sport has evolved. Basketball used to not have a three-point shot… All sports evolve. It’s just an evolution. The athletes today… they’re bigger, faster, stronger, period. The style of wrestling is not going in reverse, in my opinion.”
Jarrett emphasized that because the style won’t change, the focus must shift to “preventative maintenance.” He stressed the importance of nutrition, stretching, and regular chiropractic care, noting that wrestlers today have access to better medical resources than previous generations.
“The guys that are doing it, to me, you got two choices,” Jarrett explained. “Regal and Arn are 100% true because, left untreated or not figuring out how to do preventive [care]… you’re headed for an injury.”
He also highlighted the medical support system in AEW as a major difference from the territory days. “I’ve worked more shows without a trainer at my shows than I have with them. At AEW, there’s no less than seven at a show… Doc at ringside, he’s got ultimate authority.”
