Popular AEW star Luchasaurus has been written off television following a brutal angle on the New Year’s Smash edition of Dynamite. According to a report from Fightful Select, the former Tag Team Champion is dealing with a legitimate shoulder injury and is expected to miss time in the ring.
Luchasaurus appeared on the December 31 episode of Dynamite to support his long-time partner, Jack Perry, who was challenging Ricochet for the AEW National Championship. Fans immediately noticed that Luchasaurus was visibly banged up, sporting a heavy wrap around his shoulder and torso.
The injury was addressed on-screen through a post-match attack by The Demand (Ricochet, Toa Liona, and Bishop Kaun). After Ricochet successfully defended his title against Perry, the faction continued their assault on the Jurassic Express members. Liona and Kaun placed a piece of the ring barricade over Luchasaurus’ already injured shoulder before slamming a security guard directly onto the steel structure, exacerbating the damage.
This beatdown serves as a storyline explanation for his absence while he recovers. Fightful Select notes that while specifics regarding surgery have not been confirmed, the injury is significant enough to keep him out of action for the foreseeable future. In his absence, Jack Perry is expected to continue his run as a singles competitor.
This is a particularly unfortunate setback for the 40-year-old star, who had only recently returned to action following a serious health scare involving double pneumonia that nearly ended his career earlier in 2025. We wish him a speedy recovery.
