REPORT: WWE And AEW Interested In Free Agent

Second-generation wrestler Colby Corino has officially entered the free agent market, reportedly drawing immediate interest from both WWE and AEW. According to a report from Fightful Select, Corino is free to sign with any promotion following the expiration of his contract with the NWA on January 1, 2026.

BodySlam reports that representatives from both WWE and AEW have already asked about the 29-year-old’s contract status as he navigates his next career move. While he is testing the market, reports indicate that Corino may still remain with the NWA, as the two sides are currently in talks regarding a potential new deal.

WWE has previously pursued Corino, with the two parties reaching a verbal agreement in 2023 for him to join the company. However, that deal fell through following a background check that flagged prior legal issues.

Despite this setback, Corino has maintained a positive outlook on his relationship with the company, stating in late 2023 that “the bridge is not burned and the door is not closed.” Colby is the son of Steve Corino, a former ECW World Heavyweight Champion who currently works as a trainer and producer for WWE NXT.

Corino’s free agency comes during a difficult recovery period. In August 2025, Corino suffered a severe injury that required emergency surgery on his neck and spine. At the time, Corino addressed the severity of the situation on social media, writing, “I went to the hospital on Thursday night and was told I needed emergency surgery on my neck and back… I don’t know if I’ll be in a wrestling ring anytime soon.” The wrestling community rallied around him, raising over $20,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to assist with his medical expenses and recovery.

Prior to the injury, Corino had been a fixture in the NWA since 2019, where he made a name for himself as a former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion. His work throughout 2025 also included regular appearances for independent promotions such as JCW, Appalachian Mountain Wrestling, and DEADLOCK Pro Wrestling.
