William Regal made a return to the WWE Performance Center during last night’s episode of NXT. Regal, who had not been seen at the developmental facility in some time, was accompanied by fellow veteran Fit Finlay. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider Elite, Regal had also been off the road for the main roster for an extended period, making this his first appearance at a WWE event in any capacity in a while.
The legends appeared during a tag team match featuring No Quarter Catch Crew’s Charlie Dempsey and Tavion Heights against Lexis King and Uriah Connors of The Birthright. Following their arrival at ringside, Dempsey—Regal’s real-life son—betrayed his partner by executing a German suplex on Heights. Dempsey then officially joined The Birthright, a new second-generation faction consisting of King, Connors, Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo, and Arianna Grace.
Regular Roles for Regal and Finlay
The return of the veterans is reportedly not a one-off occurrence. Johnson noted that the current expectation is for both Regal and Finlay to appear regularly on NXT programming. This move aligns with a broader creative shift in the brand, as The Birthright has been “intentionally planting seeds” for a faction centered on multigenerational talent.
Regal currently serves as vice president of Global Talent Development at WWE, a role that involves critiquing the style and believability of matches. Finlay, meanwhile, is the real-life father of Uriah Connors and has long served as a key producer and trainer behind the scenes for the company.
