Sources within both WWE and ESPN tell WrestlingNews.co there is “absolutely zero truth” to Tuesday’s report that ESPN will not renew its deal with WWE.
BJ Bethel at SEScoops reported earlier today that ESPN would let its five-year agreement with WWE expire when it ends, one year into the deal. The report cited the current media market, “culture and synergy” issues between the two companies, and cable providers declining to pick up the cost of the ESPN app for their customers.
WrestlingNews.co has spoken with sources on both sides of the deal, and both dispute the report entirely.
The five-year agreement, worth $1.6 billion, moved WWE’s premium live events to ESPN’s streaming platform beginning in 2025 and runs into 2030. Any renewal decision would be several years away regardless.
