The speculation about Sammy Guevara’s future in AEW appears to have been built on something that never happened.
Guevara set off several days of rumors when he posted “new bio” on X on July 19. Fans checked his profile, found no mention of AEW in it, and concluded he had scrubbed the company from his page. Given how sparingly he has been used on AEW television lately, the assumption spread quickly that he was on his way out or had already been let go.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez said none of that holds up.
“As it turns out, his contract is not expired. He has not been released. Nothing has changed,” Alvarez said. “I was told that AEW had never been in his bio, so when he said ‘new bio’ and people looked at his bio and saw that it had been removed, it actually had never been there in the first place.”
In other words, there was nothing to remove.
“I just know for sure his contract has not expired. He has not been released and apparently nothing has changed,” Alvarez said. “I did hear from people who should probably know and they said nothing has changed.”
Guevara has remained listed on AEW’s official roster page throughout. His bio currently reads “World Champion, Husband, Father & Professional Wrestler.”
The rumor gained traction because of how little Guevara has been on AEW television. One of the promotion’s original four pillars alongside MJF, Darby Allin and Jack Perry, and a three-time TNT Champion, he has wrestled only a handful of AEW matches in 2026, spending most of his time in ROH and CMLL. He addressed that himself in a recent interview with MuscleManMalcolm, saying his television time is “not my call” and that he was given a couple of hours’ notice before his AEW World Championship match against Darby Allin.
Alvarez separately reported that Guevara’s wife, Tay Melo, requested her AEW release at some point in 2025 and was denied. Melo has not wrestled on AEW television since a loss to Thekla in November 2025.
