AEW President Tony Khan’s important announcement on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite was the promotion making its debut in the United Kingdom when they bring their All In show to Wembley Stadium on August 27.
This is a big move by the promotion as the London stadium holds up to 90,000 fans. The last time that a wrestling show took place at the venue was in 1992 for WWE SummerSlam, which had 80,000 in attendance.
It should be noted that AEW is big over in the UK as they routinely have more television viewers in the country than WWE. Still, they will need a big main event to draw more interest.
The promotion is off to a hot start for it. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the pre-sale registration for the show had generated 25,000 sign-ups. Meltzer wrote:
“Tickets go on sale to the public on 5/5, but they are doing a pre-register for early access with a code, and there will be a pre-sale on 5/2. That will largely give a strong clue as to how successful the show will end up being. There were reports of 25,000 sign-ups the first day.”
Although not confirmed, the belief is this will be a pay-per-view event, as it doesn’t make sense to run a stadium house show. However, it will take place a week before the traditionally held All Out pay-per-view event on Labor Day Weekend. It’s unclear whether they will do two PPV events within a week of each other or move back All Out, or not have an All Out show this year.
