AEW has officially filed to trademark the name of its newest faction, “The Demand”. The name is for the trio consisting of Ricochet and the Gates of Agony (Toa Liona & Bishop Kaun), who scored a victory at the AEW All Out pay-per-view this past Saturday. The group’s name was revealed for the first time by ring announcer Justin Roberts during their entrance at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada, and was confirmed by the commentary team.
The trademark application was filed with the following description of services: “Conducting entertainment exhibitions in the nature of professional wresting exhibitions and performances by professional wrestlers, namely, performances by a team of wrestlers during professional wrestling events; Entertainment services in the nature of live professional wrestling performances”.
The filing comes on the heels of the faction’s victory over the veteran group, The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin & MVP). The Demand picked up the win after Ricochet hit MVP with his “Spirit Gun” finishing move and secured the pinfall. It marked the first time that The Hurt Syndicate had been defeated via pinfall since the faction’s debut in AEW. While the group did suffer a loss at the Forbidden Door event, it was in a multi-team match where neither Bobby Lashley nor Shelton Benjamin was involved in the decision.
The formation of The Demand has been building for several weeks, stemming from Ricochet’s feud with The Don Callis Family. After being outnumbered in his battles with Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher, Ricochet found unlikely allies in the Gates of Agony, who had recently split from their long-time manager, Swerve Strickland.
