AEW could be moving closer to launching its own streaming service. The company’s current product streams on HBO Max in the United States, part of a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery that also sees AEW programming air on TBS.
It now appears that AEW is taking steps toward its own platform, with a new listing on the USPTO indicating a potential name. The listing was filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on November 14.
The company filed to cover the term “WATCH AEW”. The Goods and Services description for the listing reveals its intended purpose: “Entertainment services in the nature of live professional wrestling performances; Entertainment services in the nature of production of professional wrestling television programs; Entertainment services, namely, production and distribution of ongoing television programs in the field of professional wrestling; Providing television programs, not downloadable, via streaming transmission services; Providing non-downloadable videos in the field of professional wrestling via streaming transmission services”.
While it remains to be seen if or how AEW would use this specific trademark, the description certainly lends itself to a video-on-demand platform. AEW Full Gear, scheduled for November 22, will be available to order via HBO Max in the United States. International fans can order the event on Prime Video, Triller TV, and YouTube.
AEW President Tony Khan has previously discussed a potential streaming option for the company. This new filing comes after the promotion has dealt with streaming issues on third-party platforms in the past, including an outage on Amazon Prime Video during the WrestleDream event in October.
