AEW may be preparing to introduce a new match concept, as the company has recently filed two trademarks related to a “Bacon Brawl.” AEW filed trademark applications with the United States Patent & Trademark Office for the phrases “Bacon Brawl” and “AEW Bacon Brawl.” The filings cover a wide range of goods and services, suggesting potential plans for merchandise and possibly even a new match type. The move has sparked speculation among fans, especially given the close proximity to the upcoming WrestleDream pay-per-view and its themed pre-show.
The trademark applications were filed across several classes, indicating a broad scope for the new brand. The filings cover prepared meals consisting of meat, fish, or poultry, as well as a variety of housewares, including non-electric cookware, plates, cups, mugs, and barbecue utensils. Additionally, the trademarks cover a full line of apparel, such as shirts, pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, headwear, footwear, and undergarments. This would indicate that whatever “Bacon Brawl” is, AEW intends to market it heavily with a diverse range of merchandise.
The timing of the trademark filings has led to speculation that the name could be connected to the upcoming WrestleDream pay-per-view on Saturday, October 18. The official pre-show for the event has been named the “AEW Saturday Tailgate Brawl: WrestleDream,” which shares a similar food-and-fighting theme with the “Bacon Brawl” name. It is possible that a “Bacon Brawl” match could be featured on the pre-show or that the name is part of the overall branding for the tailgate-themed event.
AEW has a history of creating unique, branded match types, such as the Stadium Stampede match and Anarchy in the Arena, making the introduction of a “Bacon Brawl” a distinct possibility. The WrestleDream event, preceded by a countdown special on October 15, is held to honor the legacy of NJPW founder Antonio Inoki.
While no matches have been officially announced for the 2025 card, last year’s event was headlined by Bryan Danielson’s last full-time match when he lost the World Heavyweight Title to Jon Moxley.
