Cody vs. Darby Allin was a match that many fans were looking forward to seeing once the contest was announced by AEW and it lived up to the hype on Saturday night.
As seen in the match, Rhodes went to a draw with the rising prospect, who made a name for himself under the EVOLVE banner and on the independent wrestling scene. This was billed as one of the top matches on Fyter Fest and the highest profile match in Allin’s career.
It was a hard-hitting contest that saw Allin take some nasty bumps including one through the ropes into the ring post and taking a bump from the middle rope to the ring apron. Throughout the match, Rhodes sold a left-hand injury. The match ended after two minutes with a time-limit draw.
After the match, Shawn Spears, formerly known as Tye Dillinger, hit Cody in the head with a chair.
AEW holds their next event, Fight for the Fallen, on July 13, 2019 from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida that will see event’s proceeds will be donated to victims of gun violence. While Allin doesn’t have a match lined up for this show, Cody does as he’ll team up with his brother, Dustin, to take on The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) in a tag team match that could headline the show.
