Before the Motor City Machine Guns signed with WWE in 2024 and became WWE Tag Team Champions, they were reportedly in discussions for a major match in AEW. New details have come out regarding the original creative plans AEW had for Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley.
Reports from last year confirmed that the legendary tag team had held talks with AEW. It has now been learned what was being discussed internally for their potential debut, which would have culminated at the company’s landmark All In event at Wembley Stadium.
According to the reports, while the Motor City Machine Guns were in talks with AEW, the company’s creative direction was heading towards a tag team title feud between them and The Young Bucks for the pay-per-view.
However, discussions between the two sides reportedly went silent at some point during the summer of last year. The belief within AEW was that Sabin and Shelley were likely heading to WWE. As a result, AEW creative pivoted, and the All In card was changed, with The Young Bucks ultimately facing FTR at the show.
The Motor City Machine Guns would go on to sign with WWE and made an immediate impact, winning the WWE Tag Team Titles within their first week on the main roster.
