AEW had interesting plans for Marty Scurll before he signed new ROH deal

Marty Scurll has signed a big money deal to stay with Ring of Honor that will give him booking power and allow him to wrestle for other promotions.

It’s known that Scurll will work in creative as a co-booker with Hunter Johnston (Delirious) as Johnston is still the Executive Producer of television and he and Scurll listed as the booker.

Basically, Scurll is getting WWE main roster money guaranteed for around 40+ dates per year with this new ROH. He can also work for any other promotions he wants without the restrictions that ROH talent had in the past.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that before the news of Scurll staying with ROH came out, All Elite Wrestling (AEW) had some interesting plans for Scurll should he had signed with the promotion.

Meltzer wrote, “Scurll had been the first choice to be the leader of the Dark Order and AEW for the 12/18 show in Corpus Christi with the heavily criticized beatdown, there was an idea for the show to end with the Scurll reveal, until ROH made Scurll such a great offer to stay.”

With Scurll working a program with NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis, they will be a top feud going forward.

Meltzer noted that he was told when negotiations were going on, it may not exclude Scurll from AEW although others have said the deal will only exclude AEW and WWE.

It was added that, “Scurll’s role when it comes to office work will be to work as a liaison to New Japan, the NWA and other organizations including AEW, which ROH will try and get a working relationship with.”
