Many fans were expecting to see a live follow-up from Sting after being attacked by The Young Bucks two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite after he won the Tag Team Titles with Darby Allin before being taken out and left bloody alongside his sons.
The segment
Although Sting did appear on the broadcast, he did so in a backstage segment alongside Allin to further his feud with The Bucks. He also mentioned that his father had recently passed away.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that AEW originally had plans for Sting to appear on the show. It was one of many changes made to a chaotic Dynamite.
Plans change
“Sting was supposed to be in the show, but his father died, which we’ll get into in a second. So that’s why Ric Flair was there because Sting was supposed to be there. And then they did whatever they did, we’ll see if that leads into anything,” Meltzer stated.
Meltzer added, “Originally, like, Sting and Darby were supposed to be on the show, doing something, whatever they were going to do that, that had to be taken off because they shot all that in Sting’s house in the Dallas area, I think.”
