It’s been seven months since CM Punk got into a backstage brawl with The Elite and ripped several wrestlers (Hangman Page, Colt Cabana & The Young Bucks) at the AEW All Out post-event press conference.
As previously reported, Punk wants to come back, AEW President Tony Khan also wants him to return, and now there are tentative plans in place for it to happen this summer. For more on when he’s expected to return, click here.
There are also backstage issues that have yet to be settled with Punk ahead of his return.
However, In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that AEW might have an idea to ease the tension among those who don’t like Punk and vice versa. That would be with the Saturday show that is expected to premiere sometime this summer.
It was reported by Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast in March that AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery are closing in on a deal to add a third AEW show. He later tweeted a hint that the show may air on Saturdays at 6:05 PM.
Meltzer wrote, “The working idea was that the Saturday show would star Punk and that they would split crews to a large degree.”
The promotion previously nixed a Rampage event from Friday, July 14, and replaced it with a “TV event” on Saturday, July 8, from Regina, Saskatchewan.
