AEW has been planning to change the name of All-Atlantic Title for months

AEW President Tony Khan announced on Wednesday’s Dynamite that the All-Atlantic Title was getting a new name as the title will be “leveled up” and now be known as the AEW International Championship.

He also announced that champion Orange Cassidy will defend against Jeff Jarrett next Wednesday on Dynamite in Winnipeg.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported today that changing the name of the title has been a move that has been in the works for quite some time.

Per the report, Warner Bros asked for something big in order to cross-promote the Shazam: Fury of the Gods movie on AEW programming so Khan came up with the idea of doing a “level up” of the championship to the International Title, leading to the belt being made months ago.

It was done specifically for this week and next week in order to promote the movie.

AEW is said to be always excited to do cross-promotional work and attempts to do something newsworthy in association with the promotional work.

“AEW also wanted to put something newsworthy on the Winnipeg show and increase the prestige of a title they put on television often in prime positions,” the report added.

Jericho Appreciation Society vs.The Elite vs. House of Black for the Trios Titles is another championship bout set for next week’s show.
