Tony Khan refutes report about AEW making a contract offer to Adam Cole

UPDATE: Dave Meltzer noted on Twitter that he was told by AEW President Tony Khan that he has not made a contract offer to Adam Cole.

ORIGINAL: Adam Cole’s contract with WWE expires shortly after SummerSlam later this month.

This comes after his original deal expired after the Great American Bash show, but he verbally agreed to stay then signed a short-term extension through August. It was previously reported the news of Cole’s deal being up after this month caught some executives by surprise.

When news broke of Cole’s contract status, many fans speculated whether he would stay with NXT or go to All Elite Wrestling as he has friends in the rival promotion, and his girlfriend, Britt Baker, is the current Women’s Champion.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that since Cole’s contract would expire, he would become a free agent immediately and he wouldn’t have a 30-day non-compete to prevent him from signing with anyone right away.

It was noted that those close to the situation state Cole is negotiating a new deal with NXT, but AEW has made an offer as well and he had not agreed to either offer as of midweek

There’s another top NXT star’s contract also slated to expire soon as well.
