News coverage takes a big chunk out of WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite viewership

The live viewership numbers for both AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT are in.

AEW was down while NXT was up in total viewers. It was AEW that took the win this week in viewership and won the key demo. However, both shows appear to have been impacted by the news coverage following pro-Trump supporters invading the US Capitol.

Dynamite drew 662,000 live viewers and NXT drew 641,000 live viewers. Last week, AEW drew 977,000 while NXT drew 586,000.

AEW presented its New Year’s Smash special that was headlined by Kenny Omega defended the World Heavyweight Title against Rey Fenix while WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor defended the title against Kyle O’Reilly in the main event of the New Year’s Evil edition.

The top 150 shows on cable list has yet to be released. Thus, there’s no word yet on where both shows ranked on the chart nor any other breakdowns in the demographics aside from the key demo.
