AEW Officials And Tony Khan Were Adamant That Sting Should Win His Retirement Match

Despite some confusion as to what would headline the first AEW PPV event of the year, AEW Tag Team Champions Sting & Darby Allin vs. The Young Bucks in Tornado Tag Team Match, serving as Sting’s retirement match, took place in the main event spot of the AEW Revolution 2024 pay-per-view event from the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC.

It was an emotional match with David Crockett, Ricky Steamboat, Ric Flair, and others being in attendance. Sting’s sons dressed up as past versions of him and took some revenge on the heels.

It was a wild match that ended when Allin with the coffin drop then the scorpion death lock by Sting on Matt for the win.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that they were told that All Elite Wrestling and Tony Khan were adamant that Sting would go out on top and as a champion. Those in AEW felt honoring Sting was important to management there. Sting headlining was virtually planned since Sting announced his retirement and had a big say in having The Young Bucks as his final opponents as well as the location. Lex Luger, Scotty Riggs, and others were backstage to support Sting.
