AEW Received Significant Money for Texas Chainsaw Massacre Match

On Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite, the promotion booked a Texas Chainsaw Massacre match with Jeff Jarrett and Jeff Hardy, where they brawled around the arena while using various weapons.

There was interference from Satnam Sing, Jay Lethal, Karen Angle, Matt Hardy, Brother Zay, Ethan Page, and Leatherface. The finish happens when Singh chokeslammed Jeff Hardy and pulled Jarrett on top of Hardy for the pin.

While the promotion got paid for the match, they did a good thing by having the proceeds go to help with the Maui wildfires. The sponsorship was for the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted they raised over $100,000 for the sponsorship.

Meltzer: “Because it was a big number. It was over $100,000 sponsorship. And I mean for that kind of thing, it was like, again, the network wants the sponsorship.”

Bryan Alvarez: “Why do these things have to be such disasters all the time?…. That’s exactly what I was going to ask, dude. It’s like if Miz and the zombies….if I were a sponsor, it’s like, can you have a good match?”
