In a much-anticipated AEW World Championship match, Chris Jericho took on Jon Moxley at Revolution in Chicago, IL in the main event.
Jericho had a choir to sing his song before he began walking to the ring. Santana and Ortiz were in Jericho’s corner during this match. They started out by brawling in the ring and then the brawl went into the crowd. They brawl continued for several minutes at ringside. Jericho powerbombed Mox on the table with the ring bell and the camera showed that there was blood around Moxley’s bad eye.
Back in the ring, Mox was able to get in some brief offense but he was tossed out of the ring and then attacked by Ortiz and Santana at ringside. Several minutes later, Ortiz hit Moxley with the loaded sock and Jericho almost scored a pinfall after hitting the Lionsault.
Moxley got some offense and he had the Walls of Jericho applied on Jericho but Mox had to fight off Jake Hager and Jericho then hit the Code Breaker for a near all. Jericho locked in the Walls of Jericho but Mox made it to the ropes. Jericho got into it with ref Aubrey. She was Hager interfering again so she tossed him out along with Ortiz and Santana. Sammy Guevara snuck in the ring and nailed Mox with the title belt and then he escaped through the crowd. Jericho went to pin Mox but Mox kicked out.
The match turned into a slugfest with both men exchanging punches while Moxley’s eye continued to bleed. Jericho took out Moxley’s good eye and then continued to work on it to keep him blinded. Mox avoided the Judas Effect and then hit Jericho with the Paradigm Shift. Mox pulled off his eye patch and revealed that he can see from his eye. Mox hit the Paradigm Shift again and pinned Jericho to win the title.
Mox grabbed the microphone and said “God damn, I love this sh*t.” He said it’s been a hell of a year for him and he said AEW belongs to the fans because they have been driving the company forward and they are the energy that fuels AEW.
Mox said a year ago there was a conversation about pro wrestling being brought back to the people and that is what happened. He said the AEW World Championship belongs to the fans. He thanked all of the fans that have stuck with him through the good and bad and said the title belongs to them.
Mox said he doesn’t have words to describe the gratitude he has for the AEW family. He closed out by saying it’s beer o’clock. Mox said he will take on anyone, anytime and any place. His music played and then he went out into the crowd to celebrate with the fans.
