AEW Star Announced For Wrestling Appearance Amid Recovery

Kota Ibushi is set to appear at GLEAT’s Fifth Anniversary event.

The Japanese promotion officially announced the AEW star’s participation via social media, confirming he will be part of the July 1 show. According to GLEAT, the appearance will feature a premium photoshoot with Ibushi, along with a competition in which winners will receive autographed photos and a meet and greet. The event takes place at the SGC Hall Ariake in Tokyo, Japan, with additional details available on GLEAT’s social media pages.

Ibushi is no stranger to the promotion, having competed and headlined a number of GLEAT events over the past several years. His appearance this time will come in a non-wrestling capacity, as he remains sidelined from in-ring action. The 43-year-old has been recovering from a broken femur, an injury he suffered during an AEW Collision taping last year, and a return to the ring has been described as unlikely for the time being.

Despite being unable to compete, Ibushi has remained closely connected to the wrestling world throughout his recovery. He attended a Super Japan Pro Wrestling event in May, and he has also spoken about his desire to give back to the industry. Among his plans is a project to revamp Shinjuku FACE, a well-known wrestling venue, with the goal of providing up-and-coming wrestlers a platform to showcase their talent.

Ibushi made his name in DDT Pro-Wrestling and NJPW, where he became a multi-time champion and one half of the celebrated Golden Lovers tag team with Kenny Omega, before signing with AEW.
