AEW star dealing with trademark issues due to confusion with AAA filing

All Elite Wrestling’s Rey Fenix attempted to gain the trademark rights to his ring name last August. However, he’s dealing with issues in getting approval from The United States Patent and Trademark Office

The filing was made via Trademark Engine, with assistance from Masked Republic.

According to Heel By Nature, The United States Patent and Trademark Office denied the filing on January 5th due to several reasons such as confusion with a previous trademark for ‘Fenix,’ which is owned by Lucha Libre FMV.

Fenix signed consent for the filing in April 2016 and Lucha Libre FMV made the filing in May 2017. It turns out that Lucha Libre FMV is owned by Lucha Libre AAA and FactoryMade Ventures. They own the rights to AAA trademarks outside Mexico.

Now, Fenix has up to six months to send in the proper documentation to continue the filing process and if he doesn’t then his trademark attempt will be abandoned.

Fenix just lost to AEW World Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega in the main event of this past Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
