AEW star done with the company after contract expires

Several AEW contracts are expiring within weeks so expect to see some departures.

One of the names who is officially done with the company is Joey Janela because his deal expires today, May 1st. The news about Janela’s exit is not surprising because he hasn’t been used on TV in months. Janela states in months that AEW had gone “radio silent” with him and he was not expecting to sign a new deal.

Janela indicated to Denise Salcedo that he was not interested in signing. He said, “My contract is up on May 1, and I’m going to have to say no now. I’m not interested in resigning with AEW.”

He added, “I just wish there was less radio silence on their end with me. I consider Tony a friend. I hung out with Tony a lot in the beginning days of AEW. I just wish they would talk to me. I know it’s come to an end, but I appreciate them. I appreciate the experience I had and I’m going to take everything I learned there and bring it with me for the rest of my career.”

PWInsider later reported that there was heat on Janela for injuring Eddie Kingston because it changed weeks worth of TV plans. PWI also stated that there’s an internal belief that several talents were hurt while working with Janela.

Janela stated that he and Kingston have zero heat over that “mistake” and that he never hurt Hangman Adam Page.
