AEW Star Fires Back At Critics Of His Solo Run: ‘People Need To Stop Pretending Like They Know Everything’

Anthony Bowens has fired back at criticism of his Five-Tool Player character in AEW, saying the gimmick was always building toward something specific that ultimately never came to fruition and that people criticizing his solo run are doing so without any real understanding of what was intended.

Bowens addressed the topic on social media after inviting fans to send him questions, with one fan raising the subject of whether his perceived stubbornness with the Five-Tool Player direction hurt his solo run. Bowens pushed back firmly. “Everything I did was purposeful and was meant to lead to something that never happened,” Bowens replied. “People need to stop pretending like they know everything.”

He followed up with a more pointed response to the characterization of his approach as stubborn. “Just informing him that his assumption of stubbornness is incorrect and based off of something he has no idea about,” Bowens wrote. “I can accept your opinion of me as a wrestler, whether you think I’m a 2 out of 10 or 7 out of 10, but that’s much different than having to listen to people say stupid shit like that for the last year. Have a good day.”

Bowens adopted the Five-Tool Player nickname following the breakup of The Acclaimed with Max Caster in January 2025, a reference to his background in baseball. The split led to a rivalry. Together, Bowens and Caster were former AEW World Tag Team Champions and AEW World Trios Champions alongside Billy Gunn.

When asked by another fan which Max was his favorite, Caster or AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Bowens kept it simple. “Caster,” he wrote.
